The four-day ‘Bashundhara Bangladesh Open-2015’ golf tournament begins at Kurmitola Golf Club in capital, with much fanfare and festivity this morning.
Starting at 6:00am, Ko Dang Sun of Singapore, Afnan Mahmud Mahi and Md. Musa of Bangladesh have played a part in bringing them to the first tee from hole no-1.
At the same time, Lalith Kumara (Sri Lanka), Goh Kun Yang (Singapore), and M Nur Jamal (Bangladesh) hit tee shots at the tenth hole.
Bashundhara Group, the country’s leading business conglomerate, is the title sponsor of the international professional golf event involving prizes totalling US$300,000, with local hero Siddikur Rahman headlining the tournament on home soil.
Bangladesh Golf Federation secretary general Brigadier General Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah and Junior Division Golf president Major General Mohammad Masud Razzak were present there.
Country’s top golfer Siddikur Rahman took his tee shot at the tenth hole at 7:30am with Digvijay Singh (India) and Thaworn Wiratchant (Thailand).
A total of 156 golfers, including 31 from home, have taken part at the tournament.
But the single-most driving force in shaping an event dazzlingly capturing the public imagination has been Siddikur Rahaman who has done much more than lend his name.
Additional security measures have been taken to thwart any unexpected incident in the tournament. Weather forecast is also being announced to avoid any inconvenience.
Earlier on Tuesday, a Pro-Am event was held in this regard. Additional Managing Director of Bashundhara Group Safwan Sobhan attended the event.
Bashundhara Group adviser Major General (Retd) Mahbub Haider, adviser (public relations) Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Khandaker Abdul Wahed and marketing head MM Jasim Uddin, among others, were also present at the function.
