Honors thirty Shaheed Jananis
The daily Kaler Kantho, a leading Bengali newspaper of the country and a concern of East West Media Group Ltd (EWMGL), stepped into its third year of publication with graceful celebrations Tuesday.
To mark the occasion, the daily honored 30 Shaheed Jananis (mothers of martyrs) in a ceremony held on the premises of EWMGL in Bashundhara residential area in the city.
Political and business leaders, intellectuals, litterateurs, civil-society members, celebrities and persons from various strata of life came to Kaler Kantho office with bouquets to greet the daily till evening.
Political leaders and noted personalities who joined the anniversary programme are former president Hussain Mohammad Ershad, Industries Minister Dilip Barua, Secretary-General of BNP Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir, Prime Minister’s Health Adviser Prof Dr Syed Modasser Ali, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, Standing Committee Member of BNP and former army chief Lt-General Mahbubur Rahman, BNP leader Amanullah Aman, Presidium Member of Jatiya Party Azam Khan, PSC member Iqram Ahmed, President of Jatyatabadi Dal Moazzem Hossain Alal, Editor of daily sun Prof Dr Syed Anwar Husain, Editor of Banglanews 24.com Alamgir Hossain, acting Editor of Bangladesh Pratidin Noyeem Nizam, Chief Advisor of Bashundhara Group Chairman Mahbub Morshed Hasan, advisor A R Siddique, East West Media Adviser Abu Tayeb, Police Commissioner Benjir Ahmed, Chairman of Amin Mohammad Group M M Enamul Haque, Director (Administration) of Japan-Bangladesh Friendship Hospital Mahbub Alam Babu.
Film director Chashi Nazrul Islam, singer Kumar Biswajit, singer Akhi Alamgir, dramatist Nader Chowdhury and Mosharraf Karim and others also attended the daylong function.
Representatives from different organisations including Standard Chartered Bank Ltd, Brac Bank Ltd, Exim Bank Ltd, Sara Advertising Ltd, I Positive, Mediacom, Dhaka Sangbadpatra Hawkers Bahumukhi Samabay Samity also joined the programme.
Former President Ershad said within two years the newspaper has gained huge popularity.
The daily is doing better under the leadership of its Acting Editor Emdadul Haq Milon, he added.
Dilp Barua thanked the owner, publisher, editor and journalists of Kaler Kantho for honouring 30 Shaheed Jananis after 40 years of the War of Liberation.
At the ceremony in the afternoon, Emdadul Haq Milon said the Kaler Kanthao started its journey with the sprit of liberation war.
“We are proud as we are honouring the mothers of martyrs,” he said.
The martyrs’ mothers were given crest and Tk50, 000 each at the program.
Dilip Barua, Lt General Mahbubur Rahman and Emdadul Haq Millon handed them the crests.
