The Daily Sun, one of the leading English dailies of the country, steps into the 10th year of its publication today amid challenges like fake news and motivated news, but determined to bring the readers the accurate news that matters.
A media outlet of the East West Media Group Ltd (EWMGL) and owned by the country’s largest conglomerate Bashundhara Group, the Daily Sun started its journey along with its online version on October 24, 2010 with the slogan — ‘true and impartial.’
The office of the Daily Sun turned into a canvas of colours with balloons, tinkers and gracefully dressed members of its family.
Sayem Sobhan Anvir, Managing Director of Bashundhara Group and East West Media Group Ltd along with Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury launched the colourful anniversary celebrations by cutting a cake at the office of the daily on Wednesday evening with other invited guests and all the members of the newspaper’s family.
Speaking on the auspicious occasion, Sayem Sobhan Anvir wished the Daily Sun the best of luck and its continued success.
“The Daily Sun excels in team work to present impartial news. I hope the newspaper will continue to do better in the future,” he said.
Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury said the Daily Sun has maintained a standard in news gathering and operations since its inception, besides it was gaining popularity at home and abroad.
“We practice objective journalism and project positive stories on Bangladesh globally. A group of experienced and young journalists under the supervision of quality seniors are putting in their best efforts to take the newspaper to greater heights. The anniversary of the daily gives us the opportunity to celebrate our successes with our readers and patrons,” he added.
Lawmaker Saifuzzaman Shikhor, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalist Secretary General Shaban Mahmud, Bangladesh Pratidin Editor Naem Nizam, Kaler Kantho Editor Imdadul Haq Milan, Acting Editor Mostofa Kamal, News24 TV Head of News Rahul Raha, Executive Director of Capital Radio Hasnain Khorshed and Banglanews24.com Editor Jewel Mazhar, among others, were present at the cake-cutting ceremony.
The Daily Sun Consulting Editor Nadeem Qadir, News Editor Syed Afzal Hossain, Joint News Editor Mirza Md Mohsin, Chief Reporter Firoz Al Mamun, other journalists, officials and employees of the daily were also present and cheered and clapped as the cake was cut heralding a new year for the publication.
The management of the newspaper has undertaken a two-day programme to celebrate the anniversary of the daily. A daylong get-together will take place at the office of the daily.
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, ministers, high officials from both public and private sectors, foreign diplomats, celebrities, readers and contributors are expected to attend the anniversary celebration programme today.
