Business conglomerate Bashundhara Group yesterday pocked top 20 designers, who earlier participated a contest for designing the bag of Bashundhara Cement, for the final round of the competition.
The designs were selected from the designs of a total of 1,012 talented designers from across the country, officials said.
A panel of judges comprising reputed designers, architects and company officials introduced the designers and their works at a function at Bashundhara Convention Centre in Dhaka, with further instructions for the final race.
The designing campaign styled: “Design Bashundhara Cement Bag, Win Tk 500,000” kicked off on December 12 last year and received a tremendous response.
Bashundhara Group has undertaken the new venture to become a major player in cement manufacturing in the country. The cement is expected to hit the market within a few months.
The group is not new in the cement sector. It also owns Meghna Cement Mills Ltd, which markets its product under the brand name “King Brand Cement”. The company is enlisted with both the stock markets of the country.
The juries for the competition are Artist Hamiduzzaman Khan, Prof Dr M Shamim Z Basunia and Architect Rabiul Hassain, while Uzzal Shah Toton and cement bag design expert M Aiyub Ali were on the technical panel.
At the function, judges asked the successful designers to share with the participants their inspirations and themes behind creating the beautiful designs.
They also instructed them to submit two more designs by January 31 with some mandatory inputs suggested by the technical panel, from which the final design will be selected.
The judges also lauded the initiative of Bashundhara Group which they said would help flourish young talents.
“It is an esthetic development for our country,” said Hamiduzzaman Khan, before announcing the names of successful contestants.
In his welcome speech, chief marketing officer of Bashundhara Cement Md Saiful Islam Helali said through the designing campaign, Bashundhara will be able to present its valued consumers an attractive, timely and modern cement bag.
Helali said the contestants will have to submit their revised designs by January 31 through e-mail, CD, DVD or hardcopies.
Senior Deputy Managing Director of Bashundhara Group Mohammad Belayet Hossain and Media Adviser Mohammad Abu Tayeb also spoke at the function.
Deputy General Manager (Cement Sector) of BG Khandakar Kingshuk Hossain and its Deputy General Manager (Marketing and Sales) AKM Rashed Uddin were also present among others on the occasion.
